The Most Hotly Anticipated Games of 2018
It’s a new year, and with that, we’re going to look forward to some of the best new releases due to drop in 2018. Whether you are a casual gamer or a hardcore one, there are plenty of releases that will whet your appetite. I’m going to cover the main gaming platforms and the games there is most buzz about in the gaming world.
Yoshi – Nintendo Switch
Following on from the success of Super Mario Odyssey, the gaming giants have announced a spin-off game featuring Mario’s own dinosaur transport – Yoshi. The trailer for the game looks as though it’s going to be a puzzle platform game with two versions of each level with a “front” and “back.” The front of the level is constructed from what looks like papercraft models. When you go to the other side of the level you’ll see the cardboard boxes and milk cartons etc that the level is “made” out of. Mario fans are going to love this, but I’m sure the game will gain plenty of new fans.
Marvel’s Spider-Man – PS4
Insomniac games, the brains behind Spyro and Ratchet and Clank have been tasked with creating a new game for the Spiderman franchise. Marvel’s much-loved character has had a new story written by comic writers Christos Gage and Dan Stott. The attention to detail for the story and the game means that this looks like a must-have for any Spiderman fan. With gameplay that looks reminiscent of Batman’s Arkham series, this is sure to be a hit.
Red Dead Redemption 2 – Xbox, PS4
Rockstar’s interpretation of the Wild West in the original Red Dead Redemption game was absolutely spot on and gained shedloads of fans, so this much-anticipated sequel has a lot to live up to. A prequel to Red Dead Redemption, you’ll play as Arthur Morgan in an open world with single and multi-player online options.
Monster Hunter: World – Xbox, PS4, PC
Capcom’s Monster Hunter series is a cult classic with a loyal fan base worldwide. In this game, however, the developers have tweaked the gameplay to appeal to new players while keeping the features that gained it a cult following in the past. With modern like daily rewards, time-limited quests and downloadable content, this title is looking to bring the Monster Hunter world to a larger audience.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth – PC, Mac
This latest expansion for World of Warcraft will have many new player-requested features as well as the classic Horde v Alliance gameplay. New worlds, a new conflict system is paired with the classic elements of the WoW games. With 120 levels and the character limit being raised by 6 to 18, this will offer a new twist on a classic game.
The release dates aren’t yet set for most of these games, so you’ll have to keep an eye out for their release. If you’re looking for games when they are released they should be available from all good outlets on release day.
